The Eternal Question
sarahb:
Is a grilled cheese sandwich at its best when the cheese is hot and too gooey to chew, or five minutes later, when it’s cooled a little and started to coagulate?
(If you can’t handle the word coagulate in regards to your food, perhaps you should go sit at the kids’ table.)
Five minutes later. Coagulation mmmmmmm.

The Colorado River, the life vein of the Southwestern United States, is in trouble.
The river’s water is hoarded the moment it trickles out of the mountains of Wyoming and Colorado and begins its 1,450-mile journey to Mexico’s border. It runs south through seven states and the Grand Canyon, delivering water to Phoenix, Los Angeles and San Diego. Along the way, it powers homes...

A chat from March 2007
Bret: Romance, man - it's a giant clusterfuck. You go around meeting people, and there's no guarantee you'll be compatible with them - sometimes you don't figure out you're incompatible until you're already involved. Sometimes you find someone who's TOTALLY compatible but isn't interested in you. Sometimes someone finds you to be totally compatible but you don't reciprocate. It's a fucking stupid disaster.
Kate: no kiddin.' Please post that so that I may pass on the Gospel of Bret.
Bret: As you command.
Randomly
I was re-watching a bit of The Corporation and realized that every time something horrible happens to humanity and/or the planet, the markets go up. Oil spill? Markets go up. 9/11? Markets go up. War? Famine? Genocide? Check.
It’s not the perfect silver lining regarding the economic issues at hand. I know a lot of people are worried and are out of work. That’s nothing to take lightly....
He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven
HAD I the heavens’ embroidered cloths, Enwrought with golden and silver light, The blue and the dim and the dark cloths Of night and light and the half light, I would spread the cloths under your feet: But I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams. W.B. Yeats (1865–1939)

Coming home.
It means many things, but last night at one a.m. I was compelled to pull all the books of my shelves that had bookmarks to see where I left off.
In one case there’s a book of poetry with multiple markers in it. I’ve looked at them all and can not figure out why I would choose to mark these, nothing resonates as it must have before.

So, a few years ago (when jpod was released) I went to a Douglas Coupland reading and he talked a bit about Google. Basically he said (albeit worded much better) it is all cute and fun to google people now, but give it a few years and it will be an act of evil. As in, “Yeah, well I’m going to google you.” I didn’t get it at the time, or at least, I...

I take a break from the boxes to wander over to Tony’s office. As I walk in, I notice something pinned to his letterbox. “POSTMAN,” it reads. “Please put all mail in the white box under the colonnade across the courtyard to your right.”
It is not a remarkable note except for one thing. The typeface Tony used to print it is exactly the same typeface Kubrick used for...

A lot of what I do is indeed about “ordering a system of ideas so you have a place to explore and experience,” but it also documents the “bitter, ignorant, or cruel” aspects of day to day life.
So much of art is escapism. I prefer that which is not; that which is even hyper-realism.
