I’ve got it set so that Monday-Friday I get 10 minutes per hour on tumblr, livejournal, google reader, flickr, goodreads, facebook and twitter TOGETHER. Thumbs up.

But now with less internet time to distract me from the pain of life, I’m noticing all these other situations in my life that I wish I could apply Leechblock rules to. E.g.:

No more than 5 minutes/night spent lying awake unable to sleep because I’m obsessing over stupid awkward shit from grades K-12

Only 1 minute/week to Google people I’m not friends with any more

Only 3 minutes/week for eating dairy

At any given restaurant, no more than 3 minutes to look at a menu and decide what I want to eat

Only allowed to walk down the candy aisle at Walgreen’s once/month

No thinking about turning around and going through the drive-thru for the 5 minutes after I drive past a Dunkin Donuts

What else.

I've been asking variations on these two questions lately

Can you ever stop loving someone?

What happens when the passing of time doesn’t make it better but makes it worse?

This being a grown-up stuff is hard shit.

Stuff White People Like: #81 Graduate School

Stuff White People Like: #81 Graduate School: I’d like to point out that my grad degree is professionally oriented and I hate academia. This is the first installment of pieces of culture that have stuck with me and remained vital to my understanding of what it is to be human. I want to make a kind of database of the “essential culture” of my friends and myself, so if you have some, e-mail me. I want to collect and document this as a project over the summer.

- “Under Pressure” by Queen and David Bowie

- Guernica by Pablo Picasso

- Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut

- The Last Question by Isaac Asmiov

- The complete filmography of Stanley Kubrick

- almost every mythology of all cultures that I come across

"So it turns out that you don’t have to be dead to be a ghost. “Oooooh,” he said...."

“So it turns out that you don’t have to be dead to be a ghost. “Oooooh,” he said. She’s interested in the current exam questions and asks her old professor to show her some. To her surprise, they are exactly the same questions that she answered 10 years ago. When she asks the professor about this, he says: ‘The questions are always the same. Only the answers change!’” The professor’s reply should be your guiding meditation in the coming week, Virgo.
